ULYSSES – Richard Alvin Martin Sr., 88, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born July 2, 1922, to Newman Layton and Hazel Anna (Hildenbrand) Martin in Dodge City.
He married Barbara Brown Sept. 20, 1943, in Amarillo, Texas. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater. He was a field supervisor for a gas company.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Dexter D. Harbour Post No. 79, both of Ulysses.
Other survivors include three sons, Richard Martin Jr. and wife, Gloria, Hugoton, Steven Martin and wife, Susan, Greeley, Colo., and Ned Martin and wife, Deborah, Glen Elder; two daughters, Judith Ratzlaff and husband, Don, Colby, and Marianne Gepner and husband, Mike, Cedar Creek, Texas; one brother, Robert Martin and wife, Evelyn, Kingwood, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters; two sisters, Joy Hines and Jo Ann Howell; and one grandson, Heath Richard Ratzlaff.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders presiding.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Dexter D. Harbour No. 79 at the Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home.
