Elfrieda Niedens Enns, 94, died Sept. 9, 2010, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born July 5, 1916, to Fred and Olga Young Niedens two miles north of Hooker.

She married Ernest Enns Jan. 9, 1938, at the Hooker Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Van Payton presiding. He preceded her in death.

At age 8, she entered Buffalo School, so she could begin 1st grade with her younger sister, Alvina. She completed 8th grade in 1932 and was required to go to Guymon for the county test before receiving her diploma.

After the 8th grade, she stayed at home and worked in the garden and milked the family’s cows.  She ‘topped’ maize, helped cook for the thrashers and helped with butchering.

She was active in the church and filled many positions.

She enjoyed textile painting, embroidering, crocheting and knitting.  She always had a garden or tended to her flowers and trees. She and Ernest enjoyed traveling and went on many tours.

Survivors include two daughters, Elvera Raff Rhines and husband, Jerry, Hooker, and Anita Geraci and husband, Leo, New Orleans; four grandchildren, Kari Quinnelly, Annette McAdams, Lori Montalbo, and Gary Raff; six great-grandchildren, Katie, Justin Abigail, Gabriel, Haley, and Hannah; one sister-in-law, Viola Niedens, Mead, Okla.; and one brother-in-law, Hershel Neighbours, Walnut Ridge, Ark.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter Niedens; and three sisters, Frieda and Edna Olga and Alvina Niedens Enns Neighbors.

o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday the Hooker Church of the Nazarene with Larry Hall, former Hooker pastor, presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Church of the Nazarene, Hooker Cemetery Fund, or Hooker Park Fund in care of Roberts Bros. Inc. P.O. Box 745, Hooker, OK  73945.
