The Liberal cross country team has had little trouble dispatching Class 5A opponents.
Saturday was no exception.
Daily Leader staff report
Liberal knocked off all competitors in the district meet at Great Bend to earn the first-place finish and qualify for the state track meet Saturday in Lawrence.
The Panthers will also make the trip with a third-place finish.
Morgan Riggs paced the Redskins with a fourth-place overall finish and all five runners finished in the top 13.
The trip to the state tournament is the second straight for the Redskins, but this team has had more success and a first place district finish.
The 2008 team is only the 10th to have a state appearance since the Class 6A system was formed in 1978.
“These young men continue to run well at a time of the year when it really counts,” coach Darrin Bevis said. “While we match up well with other qualifying schools, this next one will be their toughest race of the year, as it should be.”
