The annual Arkalon Fishing Derby sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, Liberal Bassmasters and Seward County United Way is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 11, at Arkalon Windmill pond.
This year to encourage the whole family to come out and enjoy this event, the Recreation Department is only charging $1 per person, no matter what the age. Everyone can fish, however, you are limited to one pole per person fishing and if you are over 16 years of age, you must have a Kansas fishing license. All Kansas fishing regulations and subsequent Arkalon regulations must be observed.
During this event, only live bait will be allowed – no artificial bait(s). Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish caught. The largest fish contest is limited to 14 and under.
A parent or adult guardian must accompany each child under the age of 16. Please, no children left unattended at this event. Register at Arkalon Park the day of the event. Arkalon Park is located 10 miles northeast of Liberal on Highway 54.
