A three-car pileup at the entrance to Arkalon Park Sunday evening sent three Colorado people to the hospital.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, 33-year-old Reymundo Moreno of Liberal, was stopped at 7:40 p.m. in the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 54 to turn left onto Arkalon Park Road with a 23-year-old woman and three children as passengers.
Another vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Sienna, driven by Yvonne R, Caporal, 42, of Denver, was stopped behind Moreno’s 1998 Subaru waiting to also turn. Caporal’s passengers included four children.
The report noted Jamie West, 28, of Liberal, was also eastbound and “failed to yield and crashed into the rear of” Caporal’s vehicle causing it to hit Moreno’s Subaru, which came to rest facing eastbound in the eastbound lane.
Caporal’s Toyota ended up on the westbound shoulder facing east. Caporal and two children, 8- and 11-year-old girls, were all taken to Southwest Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Seat restraints were not in use in Caporal’s vehicle, nor were Moreno and his passenger wearing seat belts. However, the three children in Moreno’s vehicle, ages 1, 3 and 6, were using seat retraints and none were injured, according to the report.
