The Cimarron River Rattler 12-year-old state champions took two big steps to winning the Midwest Regional in Lamar, Colo., by knocking off Lajunta, Colo., 11-1 and then defeating Nebraska 8-4.

Against Lajunta, Tim Fitzgerald and Jared Hasik each hit a home run.

The Rattlers defeated a 39-3 Nebraska state championship team to move to the final two undefeated teams in the tournament.

Cimarron River will face Missouri at 4 p.m. Monday. The winner will have to be defeated twice.

The tournament winner advances to Aberdeen, Maryland, for the Cal Ripken World Series.
