JOHNSON – James Olan Kirkland, 85, died Monday, July19, 2010, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.

He was born Oct. 15, 1924, to John Pollard and Marietta (Walker) Kirkland in Ardmore, Okla.

He married Loretta Tague July 10, 1952, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He went to work for Ivan and Pat Josserand as a farm hand.  He then worked for Ted and Basil Julian until his retirement in 1990.

He enjoyed watching sports, fishing and vacationing in Oklahoma.

Other survivors include four sons, Robert Kirkland and wife, Cheryl, Denver, Loyd Kirkland, Manter, Jim Kirkland and wife, Denette, Johnson, and John Kirkland and wife, Janet Bradshaw, Harper; three daughters, Catherine Thomas and husband, Danny, Dalhart, Texas, Brenda Parks and husband, Clayton, Manter, and Pam Moore and fiancé, Jerry Cersovsky, Johnson; one brother, Bill Billings, Dalhart; one sister, Evelyn Fowler, Ardmore; 25 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Olan Eugene Kirkland, one brother, three sisters and three great-grandchildren.

o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann presiding.

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today  at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
