A Hugoton man died in a one-vehicle crash when his utility vehicle rolled and caught fire Monday just before midnight north of Liberal.
Russell L. Dill, 49, was driving a 2006 Dodge utility vehicle northbound on U.S. Highway 83 around 11:50 p.m. when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and entered the ditch. According to the Kansas Highway Parol report, Dill’s vehicle “then struck a driveway where it vaulted into the air and rolled several times.”
The report noted Dill’s vehicle then burst into flames.
The wreck happened at milepost 17.4 or 4.8 miles north of Liberal, and it was unknown if Dill had been using his seatbelt.
