Friday, 18 June 2010 10:17

• Special to the Daily Leader
The public is invited to walk their paws for better neighborhoods at Summerfest on Saturday, June 26.
Original Town of Liberal Revitalization will stage its first annual Liberal Pet Parade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Blue Bonnet Park. All proceeds will benefit the goal of OTLR to provide safe and affordable housing for low to moderate income families.
To participate and win prizes, just enter a pet in one or more of eight categories. These include best dressed, best trick, best in breed, most creative, pet/owner look alike and biggest or smallest pet.
In a special classification, Lions Club of Liberal will award a prize for the pet that looks the most like a lion (but no lions please). The minimum entry fee pledge is $7 for choice of category.
All Liberal Pet Parade participants will receive a “Walked My Paws” badge and a picture taken with their pet as well as assorted prizes and treats. Although category judging will take place at 2:30 p.m., entrants are encouraged to walk their pets in the park at any time throughout the day.
OTLR is grateful to the many sponsors and volunteers who are graciously donating goods and services to support this special event. To date, OTLR has provided housing for more than 50 families in Liberal.
Formed in 1996, the mission of this non-profit organization is to preserve and revitalize targeted neighborhoods in Liberal. The vision of OTLR is to foster community pride within these defined areas and rehabilitate a historical part of the city.
To register for the Liberal Pet Parade, simply stop at the OTLR office, or come to the registration table in Blue Bonnet Park on June 26. A handout on event requirements and restrictions will be given to each entrant.
If unable to attend, a tax deductible contribution may be sent to OTLR, 150 Plaza Drive, Suite C-3, Liberal, KS 67901.
