TYRONE, Okla. – Fern Grant, 84, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home.
She was born June 17, 1925, to Thomas M. and Verdie B. Bullard Hopkins in Benjamin, Texas.
She married James W. Burges in San Antonio. He preceded her in death.
She then married Jeff Grant Aug. 26, 1961, in Arlington, Texas. He died Feb. 18, 2009.
She graduated high school at Jacksonville, Texas, and attended Draughns Business School in Dallas.
She and her husband farmed for many years in Stevens County.
She was a member of the Tyrone Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge and was past noble grand and a member of the Liberal Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary.
She enjoyed her children and families, loved camping and fishing, her flowers and garden, to sew and knit and to embroidery.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Grant and wife, Marsha, Parachute, Colo.; one daughter, Linda Fern McGehee and husband, Dwight, Wichita; two sisters, Winnie Leonhardt, Mansfield, Texas, Frances Christman, Arlington; eight grandchildren, Ashley Mangus and husband, Forest, Jimmie Grant, Jorjie Grant, Joshua Grant, Blair McGehee, David Wright, Debbie Sue Smock and husband, James, and Jeff Woodward and wife, Kelly; four great-grandchildren, Everett Smock, Taylor and Noah Woodward, Michael Mangus; two daughters-in-law, Cathy Woodward and companion, Carrol Hill, Ponca City, Okla., and Lisa Moore and husband, Mike, Liberal; and friend, Jean Dannebohm, Ellinwood.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jimmie Wm. Wright, five brothers, J. R., Samuel, Thomas, Raymond and Morris Hopkins, and two sisters, Bessie and Dorothy.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Tyrone Methodist Church with the Revs. Dee Estes and Jerry Raab presiding.
Burial will be at the Tyrone Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary with family to greet friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Tyrone Public School in care of the mortuary.
