In Loving Memory
Velma “LaVon” Lepper Thompson, 95, daughter of William Harrison “Harry”and Arvilla Lepper, was born on November 21, 1914, at Kismet, Kansas and departed this life Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center, Liberal, Kansas.
LaVon married Loyd Thompson on November 20, 1932, and Loyd passed away on February 23, 1985. To this union was born one son Dean Thompson and wife, Sharon, of Forgan, Oklahoma and one daughter, Darma Thompson McVey (J.W. McVey) of Liberal, Kansas. LaVon’s pride and joy were her two children, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She always took great interest in everything they participated in and enjoyed giving gifts of hand work, whether it be bed quilts, to crocheting dolls and afghans, to knitting houseshoes, to ceramic items, to playing cards (even an afternoon of Nerts card game on the floor or leap frog out in the yard).
LaVon graduated from Kismet High School, Kismet, Kansas in 1933, and was a homemaker. Tommy and LaVon enjoyed spending time square-dancing, attending family events where they lived in Hugoton, Kansas, after his retirement at Panhandle Eastern. After Tommy passed away, she moved to Parklane Towers then later to Liberal Springs and always enjoyed a good game of “Kings in the Corner” or “Hand and Foot”. We will miss her dearly.
