Obituary

Helen Orene Mahoney,  died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born March 26, 1915, to Miles and Flora Williams Young on the Young Homestead, northwest of Hooker, Okla.

She attended rural school at Fernwood then Hooker High School graduating with the Class of 1935. After graduation, she continued her education in nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., receiving her R.N. She became the director of nursing and retired in 1972.

Survivors include one brother, Orville Young, Hooker; six grandchildren, Sandy Leaming, Amber Peak, Suzette Howell, Vincent Leaming, Aaron Leaming, Sarah Leaming; and nine great-grandchildren, Cody Leaming, Derek Peak, Gavin Peak, C.J. Howell, Jayli Howell, Ryan Leaming, Hudson Leaming, Carisah Washington, Cedrick Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Milard Leaming and Vernon Mahoney, one son, Larry Leaming, and one sister, Bonnie Butler.

o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hooker with Rev. Charles Mendenhall presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery.
