Mario may be entering the cage for the first time, but his preparation might give him an edge in experience.

Rine’s American Freestyle Karate has been preparing its fighters for the upcoming Throwdown Showdown 7 that will take place at Plantation Station Saturday, and Munoz has been going through the program in preparation for his upcoming fight against another newcomer to the cage, Hevie Robles from Garden City.

Munoz will put his steel fists to the test Saturday, and while he knows the advantage to his fight will be toe-to-toe, he is prepared if the fight ends up on the ground.

“I’ve been focusing on my grappling,” Munoz said. “The boxing is there. If it goes down to the mat, I’m going to step it up.”

Munoz joins eight other local fighters and a host of regional fighters who will come to Liberal for Throwdown Showdown 7. Doors will open at 3 p.m. at Plantation Station with fights to begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at RAFK located at Fourth and Grant.
