A rain dance might have been better for the Redskins Thursday.

With storm clouds looming, Liberal dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference games to Hays to fall to 0-4 in conference play.

Brandon Granger started on the mound for the Redskins in Game 1, but he was only the first in a succession of pitchers that would try to silence the Indian bats.

Nothing did.

Hays pounded out 30 runs in the double header sweep.

Tyson Deaton got the start in Game 2 and was the first of five pitchers to make an appearance.

Liberal's only highlight came in the first inning when Deaton retired Hays in order.

Liberal’s Freddie Gomez doubled to left field, and Matt Morris advanced him to third by outrunning a bunt. Deaton followed with a sacrifice ground ball to second, but Gomez scored to give the Redskins a 1-0 lead.

But Hays responded in the second inning. Three walks, three hits, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch later, the Indians had a 7-1 lead.

Liberal started out strong in the second and scored with no outs. But Jade Cathey was caught in a rundown between home and third, and the Redskins never threatened the rest of the game.

Liberal will travel to Hugoton Tuesday.
