The Liberal JV Tennis Boys traveled to Garden City for their annual invitational tournament Tuesday. The tournament began play at 9 a.m. and was finished about 2 p.m. Twelve teams competed in the bracket play (two teams from Garden City and two teams from Liberal).
Liberal Black took home second place medals in the team standings behind Garden City White and Liberal Red team placed 5th among the twelve teams. Individual results were as follows:
No. 1 Singles Preston Meyers, junior, went 3-0 on the day and came home with a gold medal.
No. 2 Singles Jose Medrano came away with second place honors losing the championship match to his teammate, Efrain Lira, of the Liberal Red.
No. 1 Doubles Bryce Lamas and Drew Wills came away with a 3-0 record and a gold medal.
No. 2 Doubles Jose Cotto and Ozzi Villarreal went 2-1 and came away with a silver medal.
No. 1 Singles Michael McCrosky was 0-3 for the day and placed 12th.
No. 2 Singles Efrain Lira was 3-0 and came away with a gold medal
No. 1 Doubles Wang Tienye and Adrian Armado went 3-1 for the day and placed 11th.
No. 2 Doubles Levi Adams and Alex Norez went 2-1 and placed 7th.
“We were very pleased in the attitudes and the way the boys played,” coach Lynn Knowles said. “For most of them this was their first time to play tennis competitively. It was a beautiful day and we finished before the wind picked up.”
