A Turpin, Okla., man went through surgery following an accident Monday in Pratt County.
Wichita TV station KAKE reported the crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 54 near Rancho Road at the western edge of Pratt.
KAKE said the Pratt County Sheriff’s Office said a Ford Crown Victoria went left of center and hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Rescue crews extricated the driver and passenger from the Jeep, and they were taken to a Pratt hospital. Both were later transferred by ambulance to a Wichita hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the Cherokee was 26-year-old Shannon Edwards-Smith, and there was also a passenger in that vehicle identified as Alexis Smith, 27. According to KAKE, passenger and driver were both from Mexico, Mo.
The driver of the Ford, Jason Smith, 40, of Turpin, was airlifted from the scene and taken to a Wichita hospital.
At the time of KAKE’s report, condition of the three victims was not known. A post on the Facebook page TURPIN HAPPENINGS STAY UPDATED, however, said Jason was at Westley Medical Center in Wichita and that he was scheduled to have surgery Wednesday morning.
KAKE initially reported Jason was from Tipton, Okla., but an inquiry by the Leader & Times on the Turpin Facebook page said he was from the nearby Texas County community, not from southwest Oklahoma.
