A financial institution has filed a mortgage foreclosure suit in Seward County District Court against the residence of attorney Nathan McCaffrey.
McCaffrey won the GOP primary election to run for the seat of Seward County Commission District 4 since he was unopposed in the primary. He will be filling the vacated seat of Doug LaFreniere, who announced last May he would not seek re-election. He will not face a Democrat opponent in the general election in November.
McCaffrey said Tuesday he is well aware of the pending suit and has initiated a process to end it.
“It’s obviously an embarrassing situation,” he said. “I’ve been in contact with the lender’s attorney to make immediate arrangements to solve the problem.”
The legal notification, which can be seen in its entirety on Page 2B, was filed by U.S. Bank National Association as a “Notice of Suit” on a residence and lot(s) located at 219 W. Fifth St.
McCaffrey has until Sept. 24 to respond to the petition of foreclosure in court, according to the notice.
McCafferey claimed the problem should be dealt with in short order.
“I’ve started that process,” he said.
