Liberal’s Yard of the Week PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 11 August 2014 08:41

This week's yard of the week has a little different twist – there are two yards which are side by side on Elm Street. One is at 710 and is owned by Al and Sheryl Pittendrigh, and the other residence is 714. This is owned by Patricia Harp. Both of these yards are equally beautiful and eye-catching. Al and Sheryl moved into their address in 2004, and Patricia has lived at her’s for nine months. Each house has a flower bed bordering the front porches. Al's bed has been planted with red knockout roses and a large hosta. Included in the area are several decorative items. There are two containers in each side of the driveway which have been planted with colorful million bells. A hanging basket of red geraniums on the porch and a pot on each side of the steps, which contain zinnias, gerbera daisies and a reed grass, invite visitors to the front door. Snapdragons surround the mail box and a pink knockout rose is in a amall corner bed. On one side of Patricia's front bed, she has planted purple fountain grass, ajuga, butterfly weed, dianthus, hosta and coral bells. A small Japanese maple and containers of petunias add interest. The other side of the bed contains coreopsis, dahlias, gallardia and an interesting twisted stump planted with rose moss and obedient plant. Each yard has nice trees which provide much needed shade in the heat of the day. Patricia’s has a large maple, and Al’s has two kinds of flowering crabapples and two large elms. The grass in each yard can be described as carpet-like. Drive by these addresses to see why both have been chosed for this award and are equally deserving. Courtesy photo
