A government whistleblower alleges that Veterans Administration healthcare managers were more conserned with meeting goals that are mandated by Obamacare a/k/a Affordable Care Act so that they can secure their cash bonuses, according to media reports on Sunday.
VA worker, Scott Davis, also stated that he notified the VA’s Office of the Inspector General about the possible malfeasance regarding a $5 million federal contract.
Davis’ report to federal investigators led to their probing the allegation that applications for veterans seeking health care benefits may have been improperly purged from the VA’s Health Eligibility Center in suburban Atlanta, Ga.
Scott Davis, who is one of the facility’s health eligibility specials, claims that applications filed by upwards of 10,000 military vets were improperly “purged from the Health Eligibility Center’s national data system in DeKalb County.” While he said not all applications are processed at that center it does help to manage the national enrollment computer system and provides services to several VA hospitals throughout the U.S.
Davis claims while he’s been with the VA since April 2011, he didn’t begin filing complaints until January 2014. He said that VA managers were focused more on meeting goals linked to Obamacare in order receive their yearly bonus payments. In addition, he informed the VA’s Office of the Inspector General that they needed to investigate the suspected mishandling of a multi-million dollar federal contract.
“We don’t discuss veterans,” Davis told the news media. “We do not work for veterans. That is something that I learned after working there. Our customer is the VA central office, the White House and the Congress. The veterans are not our priority. So whatever the initiatives are or the big ticket items that is what we focus on.”
VA officials claim the agency is seriously investigating Davis’ allegations and they are be completely transparent with federal investigators, but they wouldn’t discuss details of the investigation.
