Visitors to Liberal Memorial Library on Friday will be in for a unique treat.

The library will be hosting a show by magician Dan Dan the Magic Man starting at 2 p.m. Admission to the show is free.

“He does do some of the classic ones...and he always invites volunteers up so the kids are always calling ‘me me me me me’ and all that, especially the younger ones,” Betheny Thompson, assistant children’s librarian, said. “And there’s also a lot of audience interaction asking ‘have you seen this trick?’ and ‘do you know a way to solve this?’ He doesn’t reveal a lot of his secrets but he keeps it very interesting for the kids.

“And his theme this year is around our theme ‘Fizz, Boom, Read,’ so there’s going to be a science element to the show, too, so he’s incorporating that in there,” Casandra Norin, children’s librarian, added. “It’s great for all ages, not just kids – everyone loves a magician.”

Norin and Thompson said this will be the second time for Dan Dan the Magic Man to perform at Liberal Memorial Library. They added his first performance was very popular, and they expect a big audience this time around as well.

“It’s a consistently good show,” Norin said.

Norin also said not only does Dan Dan the Magic Man have a consistently fascinating show that adds some variety, it also goes along with the summer reading program’s theme, Fizz, Boom, Read.

“We wanted a lively, good, fun, fascinating show and from what everyone says who’s seen him – I’ve never seen him – he does that and he is a good magician,” Norin explained. “We also already had the science show a few weeks back so we wanted to do something a little different. We didn’t want two hard science shows in one summer so we went with him.”

Both Norin and Thompson also encouraged that people come early if they want decent seats, referencing how at the June 11 Fizz, Boom, Pop – Science Rocks! show, there was standing room only for the performance.

“This is one of the biggest events of summer reading…it’s free for everyone to come to – you don’t even have to have kids, you can come as just an adult,” Norin said. “Everyone loves magic.”
