TRAIN TRAP PDF Print E-mail

A Union Pacific Police vehicle prepares to issue a citation to a driver who crossed the tracks on Kansas Avenue Wednesday afternoon while a sting operation was being conducted. Without public notice of trying to bring awareness to rail crossing safety, as many as three law enforcement vehicles were pulling vehicles over if they crossed the tracks when the flashing lights began. Tickets were $276 for the infraction, and it was not unusual for more than one vehicle to be receiving a ticket at the same time throughout the sting. The rail crossing was intentionally being set off by Union Pacific and law enforcement even though no train ever entered the intersection so they could issue the fines. L&T photo/Earl Watt

EDITOR’S NOTE — This photographer also received a citation while crossing the tracks and observing a traffic stop.
