A Ponderosa, Okla., man was taken to Wichita following a motorcycle accident Wednesday in east Liberal.

At about 5:30 p.m., according to Capt. Pat McClurg of the Liberal Police Department, officers responded to Pancake Boulevard and Country Estates Road to a report of an injury accident.

“Responding officers found that a motorcycle had rear ended a pickup,” McClurg said in a press release this morning.

The LPD captain added investigating officers learned 57-year-old Mike Christian was eastbound on Pancake on a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle and had attempted to come to a stop. Christian then slid on the wet pavement and struck a 2008 Dodge pickup from behind.

The pickup was driven by a 52-year-old man and was stopped at the stop light at the Six Points intersection, according to McClurg.

“The damage to both vehicles was minor, but Christian was thrown over the handlebars and sustained non-life threatening injuries,” he said.

Christian was transported by Seward County EMS to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal and was later flown to Wichita for further care.
