There are many places to shop in Liberal, but Aunt Nesa’s Sassy boutique at 1 South Kansas Avenue has the distinction of being one of those businesses run for locals by locals.
Owner Annesa Herrington said opening the shop has been a dream of hers since her high school years and felt it was time – that it was the type of store Liberal needed.
The shop opened May 5 and hosted its ribbon cutting ceremony Friday. Setting up the shop and preparing everything took two months, Herrington explained.
“I’d set up some stuff at the home show and had a good crowd and decided that it was time just to go ahead and do it,” Herrington said of her decision to finally open her store.
Aunt Nesa’s Sassy Boutique sells women’s and children’s clothing, refurbishes furniture and also makes bow holders and hair bows. Aunt Nesa’s also does custom ordered clothing and has everything that a person can rent for any type of party, whether it be a baby shower, birthday or wedding.
Herrington said she also does wedding and party planning from the ground up.
“I have people that can do cakes, hair, makeup, so the bride pretty much just has to show up to the wedding, and everything’s done for her,” Herrington said.
The shop’s current location is at the corner of Kansas Avenue and Second Street and Herrington said she wants to stay in business for a long time. She also plans for her business to stay in Liberal.
“I don’t want it to be something that just comes and it’s here for just a few months and then it’s gone,” she said. “I hope to stay in business for quite a while and expand, have more options for Liberal. There’s not much like this here in town.”
