Obituary

 

Alma Jean (Shiflett) Ogden, 85, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Enumclaw, Wash.

She was born to Riley Francis and Almurta Ross Shiflett on March 5, 1929, in Atoka County, Okla.

She married Ralph Carl Ogden II on August 24, 1947. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Goodwell High School in Goodwell, Okla., while taking concurrent college classes.

She attended college at Panhandle A & M and obtained a Masters in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma.

She taught high school English in Texhoma, Okla.

She was a teacher/librarian for 36 years at Hermosa Junior High in Farmington, New Mexico.  During her tenure she was asked to help design, build, and run the new library. It was named the Alma J. Ogden Library in her honor.

Her passion was learning and reading was her favorite pastime.

She was known for her love of children, family and her dogs.

Survivors include her children: Londa Ogden, Ralph C. Ogden III and wife Joni, Karon and husband Cecil DeAguero, and Kevin Ogden; brothers, Curtis and wife, Betty Shiflett and Don and wife,  Lyn Shiflett; sisters, Berdine Rawlins, Mabel Tabor, Emma and husband, R.D. Schultz, Lucy and husband, Bob McKnight; seven grandchildren:  Nathan Jeffrey, Katrina Kippen, Aaron Linde, Samantha Smith, Daniel Ogden, Alexandra Restrepo, and Carrie Deguero; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Perry Bingham.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ina Lasiter and Marjorie Bingham; brother John; and grandsons David Ogden and Chris DeAguero.

• Burial will be at 11 a.m. on June 11 in the Goodwell Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.
