With two of Liberal strongest events either not competing or being disqualified at state, and other competitors not having their strongest day on the track, Liberal slipped form a second-place regional finish to 10th at the state track meet.

The Liberal girls came short of scoring at the meet.

Eli Altamarino finished second in regionals in the 400 meter dah but failed to qualify for the finals at the state meet, finishing 11th in the preliminary.

In the 800 meter run, Erving Altamarino won the regional, but finished 12th at the state meet.

Edwin Sobalvarro finished fourth at regionals in the 100 meter hurdles, and Trenton Hammond false started at the regional and was disqualified. Sobalvarro finished 10th in the preliminaries at state and did not qualify for the final heat.

Hammond defended his 300 meter hurdles title by winning gold at state with a time of 37.5 seconds, and Sobalvarro took fifth with a time of 39.89 seconds.

Liberal’s 4x400 meter relay team that won the regional event and took second in the preliminaries at state stepped out of their lane in the final and was disqualified.

Liberal claimed silver in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of Octavio Arredondo, Mershek Wiltshire, Erving Altamarino and Ian Aleman with a time of 8:03.42.

Chase Eatmon finished fourth at state with a 6-foot, 2-inch high jump.

Eatmon also qualified in the long jump but failed to score at state with a 13th place finish with a jump of 19-feet, 10.5 inches.

Hammond took fifth at state with a 43-foot, 4-inch triple jump.

Hayden Coker finished second at regionals in the shot put but finished 13th at state.

Nolan Larkin qualified in the javelin and finished 15th at state.

For the girls, Mercy Perez qualified in the mile and finished 12th at state.

Perez also qualified in the two mile and just missed scoring with a ninth place finish.

The Lady Redskins qualified for the state meet in the 4x400 meter relay but finished 16th in preliminaries.

The Lady Redskins also missed scoring in the 4x800 meter relay with a ninth place finish at state after a second-place finish at regionals.

Carley Shelton qualified in three field events and finished 10th in shot put, 14th in discus, and ninth in javelin.

Stephanie Garcia finished 14th in javelin, and Megan Besecker finished 11th in discus.
