One local church is looking for some help sending some of its youth to a camp this summer.

Young people from Church For All Nations’s Liberal campus will be joining other kids from the church’s campuses in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Littleton, Colo., for Super NOVA Summer Camp at Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, Colo.

Before they can go, though, the youth must pay their way, and to help them out CFAN Liberal will be hosting a yard sale on May 30 and 31 at the church at 623 N. Grant.

“Friday will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday will be 8 a.m. until noon,” said Joanne Metcalf, one of the church’s youth leaders.

Donations are needed for the sale, and Metcalf said the church will take anything that is gently used or new.

“Even a vehicle if they wanted to,” she said. “Big or small, we can pick it up, or they can drop it off.”

The camp itself is four days at Snow Mountain Ranch, which is a YMCA camp, and Metcalf said students from the church’s NOVA youth group from Liberal will travel from Colorado Springs to there on buses with youth from the other CFAN campuses.

“We’re expecting 150 students plus leaders,” she said. “The kids are going to go. We’re going to have a time of worship. We have a guest speaker coming from North Carolina.”

In addition to worship and the speaker, Metcalf said there will be games and team competitions and “just a really great time of bonding.”

With a cost of $225 per student, Metcalf said CFAN is looking to raise as much of the money is possible through the yard sale, as well as other fundraisers, so that anyone who wants to go on the trip can do so.

“We don’t want the cost to be prohibitive to anyone that’s going,” she said.

This is CFAN’s third year of hosting a yard sale to help kids get to summer camp, and Metcalf said the previous two have been hugely successful.

“The fundraisers that we’ve run the last two years, and we anticipate the same this year, we have been able to raise enough money to get all of our kids to camp,” she said. “In addition to covering the cost of the camp, we actually are able to cover the cost of transportation to get us from here in Liberal to Colorado Springs.”

Other fundraisers will take place in addition to the yard sale to help offset the costs of camp, according to Metcalf.

“All of the students that are going are selling a McDonald’s discount card that the local McDonald’s owners had printed up for us with fantastic deals,” she said. “The cards are only $10. If anybody would want one, they can contact the church. We’re also going to be running Grif Golf June 2-15.”

People also contact the church if they have anything would like to donate items to the yard sale.

“Typically, we’re here during our regular office hours, which is 9 to 4 Tuesday through Friday minus a lunch hour,” Metcalf said. “If they need us to come and get it, they just contact us here at the church at 620-624-4416, and we’ll take care of it.”

Metcalf said CFAN and NOVA would be happy to see the Liberal community to get behind the efforts of the local youth to get to camp, and she said youth from other local churches can go to Colorado as well.

“If anyone is interested in attending the camp, it is for sixth through 12th grade students,” she said. “NOVA meets on Wednesday nights at 7. They can just come, check out NOVA and see if they’d be interested in going.”
