If there was one inning the Redskins could take back, it would be the sixth inning in the first game of a double header with Hays Tuesday.

Liberal had a 3-1 lead, but two doubles down the third base line sparked a three-run inning for the Indians, and the Redskins could not get the tying run across the plate in their final six at-bats in a 4-3 loss.

In the nightcap, the Redskins scored in the bottom of the seventh to earn the split with a 3-2 win.

Jared Fox pitched the opener for the Redskins and limited the Indians to only five hits. He only walked two and struck out two, but it was the defense behind him that kept the Redskins competitive. Liberal did not commit an error but stranded eight runners on base including leaving the bases loaded in the second.

Collin Ware started a career day in the opener with a three-for-three performance at the plate including an RBI.

The Redskins outhit Hays 7-5 on a day with the wind blowing in, but the three-run inning for Hays in the sixth proved to be the difference.

Kaiden Long took the mound in the second game, and Hays took an early 2-0 lead after three innings.

Liberal rallied to tie the game in the fourth.

Long was able to prevent Hays from scoring the rest of the way, but Liberal did not score in the fifth or the sixth innings, either.

Ware led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple to left center into a stiff breeze.

Lorenzo Pando hit a deep fly ball to right field, and Ware scored the winning run.

Ware went five-for six on the day with an RBI and run scored.

Long helped himself at the plate with a two-for-three performance in the nightcap with a run scored and an RBI. Long went three-for-five on the day.

Liberal split Western Athletic Conference series with Hays, Great Bend and Dodge City and ended 3-5 in the WAC.

Liberal (11-9) will await regional pairings which will be available Saturday.
