Liberal’s Lady Redskin softball team continued to struggle Tuesday with a doubleheader loss to Hays.
Liberal did not get a hit in either game, and both ended after three innings.
The Lady Redskins were still shorthanded on the mound with sophomore Brittany Granger not getting the start, and freshman Sarah Bayouth had to step in the circle.
Hays pounded out 13 hits to go along with four Lady Redskin errors in the opener for a 15-0 run-rule win.
Hays junior Hannah Herald scored the perfect game for the Indians. Liberal only sent nine batters to the plate in the three-inning contest.
The second game was much of the same in a 22-0 Liberal loss.
Liberal managed to get one baserunner on in the nightcap when the Hays shortstop committed an error.
“Sometimes you have to just watch and admire what good teams can do, and Hays has all the tools,” Liberal coach Pat Knott said. “I would say that we have the top 2 Class 5A teams in our WAC conference.”
Hays is 13-3 and Great Bend is 13-1.
“Playing in this usually gets us ready for regionals,” Knott said.
The Lady Redskins will continue the road trip Friday with a double header in Johnson City against Stanton County.
The Lady Redskins dropped a pair to the Lady Trojans at home last week.
