Obituary

 

 

ULYSSES – Dickey H. Johann, 70, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 31, 1943 to Ralph and Alphalee (Shearhart) Johann in Paola.

He married to Ethyl Osborne.  They later divorced.

Dickey moved to Ulysses, Kansas where he met and married Sonja Blackmore. She preceded him in death in 2007.

He was a member of the 1961 class of Paola High School.

He worked at Hallmark in Kansas City and the Osawatomie State Hospital.

He was employed by Grant County for about 30 years before retiring.

He was a volunteer fireman for Grant County Fire Department in Ulysses.

He and Sonja had a taxi business in Ulysses for numerous years.

Survivors include daughters, Tonya Johnson, Seminole, Okla. and Rachelle Johann, Wellington, Fla.; sons, Mathias Johann, Ulysses, and Deacon Johann, Garden City; sister, Jane Swearingen, Hillsdale; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sonja Johann; and brothers: Arthur, Colonel, and Warren.

• Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Ulysses Cemetery with the Reverend Sam Bynum officiating.
