Liberal coach Pat Knott’s biggest challenge this season will be keeping his young team motivated while gaining experience against senior-heavy teams. Liberal will have to struggle through the losses for a pay-off they may not see this season, and yesterday’s double header with Great Bend was no exception.
The Lady Redskins failed to get a hit in either game, and fielding miscues, walks and hit batters led to an 18-0 loss and a 23-0 loss.
Of the 15 outs registered in the opening game, Liberal struck out 14 times.
Sophomore Brittany Granger pitched all five innings and struck out three while walking four and beaning three.
Freshman Brittany Granger pitched the second game, and Great Bend pounded out 13 hits in three innings to go along with six Lady Redskins errors for a 23-0 win after three innings.
All nine Liberal outs came by strike out. The Lady Redskins did not reach base in either game.
“This was a measuring stick for us as a WAC opponent, and we failed badly,” Knott said. “Now, can we pick ourselves up and figure out what each one of us needs to do and move forward through the rest of the season?”
