After months of training, Christian Valles, 13, will see his first action in the cage Saturday in the Pankration schedule of fights.
Pankration is a controlled version of Amateur Mixed Martial Arts that does not allow certain strikes and once a submission hold has been gained, the two fighters must released and return to stand up positions.
Both fighters are also protected with additional guards and headgear.
Valles has been involved in wrestling, and he plans to use that experience to his advantage.
“I’d like to take it to the ground,” he said. “I practice it a lot, and my wrestling background will help me a lot from down there.”
Valles plans to get his opponent in a triangle choke to score points.
Pankration fights begin at 6 p.m., and doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at Rine’s American Freestyle Karate or by calling 626-KICK, or online at cagetix.com.
