MONTEZUMA – Edwin Schmidt, 91, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.
He was born Aug. 6, 1918, to Benjamin and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt in Las Animas, Colo.
He married Dorothy Schmidt June 5, 1949, in Montezuma. She died Feb. 7, 2006.
He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.
He enjoyed life on the farm, tilling the soil, taking care of the cattle, reading and teaching agriculture.
Survivors include two sons, Jerald Schmidt and wife, Sheryl, Montezuma, and Dale Schmidt and wife, Tina, Verhalen, Texas; four daughters, Priscilla Isaac and husband, Raymond, Manitoba, Canada, Linda Schmidt and husband, Glenn, Willcox, Ariz., Rachel Schmidt, Willcox, and Glenda Koehn and husband, Dick, Montezuma; three brothers, Harry Schmidt and wife, Stella, Montezuma, John Schmidt, Montezuma, and Ben Schmidt, Montezuma; three sisters, Luella Harms, Montezuma, Elizabeth Koehn, Montezuma, and Irene Koehn, Montezuma; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Helen Schmidt; two brothers, Elmer B. Schmidt and Jesse Schmidt; and four sisters, Mabel Koehn, Leona Yost, Hannah Koehn and Dessie Koehn.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Homeland Mennonite church in Montezuma with ministers Lyndon Toews and Sherrill Esau presiding.
Burial will be at the Homeland Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma.
