On paper, Brittany Granger didn’t have the worst outing on the mound, but errors led to eight unearned runs, and the Lady Redskins dropped the first game of a double header 15-2.

Granger struck out eight and walked six in the six-inning game, but the youth of the Lady Redskins couldn’t overcome the fielding mistakes.

After falling behind 6-0 in the second, the Lady Redskins loaded the bases and had a chance to cut into the lead, but a base running error ended the threat and kept Liberal scoreless.

The Lady Redskin defense was solid in the third and fourth innings, and the Lady Redskins scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth when Jordan Urban hit a two-out single, and Callie Milsap followed with an RBI single.

Trailing 6-1 in the fifth, Ulysses strung together hit after hit, and the Lady Redskins could not get off the field. The Lady Tigers added four more runs, and after a scoreless fifth for Liberal, Ulysses pushed five more across in the top of the sixth.

Liberal put base runners on in the bottom of the sixth, and an RBI single by Urban cut the lead to 15-2, but with the bases loaded and no outs, the next three Lady Redskins batters went down in order, and Liberal lost 15-2.

“The girls got their feet wet but need to play team ball and cut down on mental mistakes and make adjustments where needed,” Liberal coach Pat Knott said.

Game 2 was almost a repeat of Game 1, Ulysses scored in bunches early, slowed in the middle, and had a big inning late while the Lady Redskins scratched runs out and left runners on base in a 14-1 loss.

Aspen Bensik went two-for-two and scored a run in the loss.

The Lady Redskins will travel to Hugoton Thursday.
