As far as the Liberal Redskins are concerned, there should be another name for free throws. They were anything but free for the Redskins Friday night, and a 13-for-25 performance at the “free” throw line led to a 46-40 loss to Dodge City.

Senior standout Britton Abbott had several chances at the line in the final four minutes to salvage a lead for the Redskins despite the tough night, but Abbott hit only one of eight attempts down the stretch and finished the game with a four-for-11 performance at the line.

Dodge City had a 36-37 lead with less than four minutes to play when Abbott missed his first two shots.

With 3:20 to play, Abbott was again fouled after getting a steal and being fouled on a breakaway, and he made the second of two attempts to tie the game, 37-37.

Hasik followed with one of two free throws with 2:35 to play to give the Redskins a 38-27 lead.

Dodge City then went to the outside shot and drained a three-pointer with 2:08 to play to take a 40-38 lead.

Dodge City added a free throw, but the Redskins made a shot to cut the lead to one, 41-40, with 39 seconds to play.

Abbott had another chance to give the Redskins the lead at the free throw line but missed both shots.

Liberal fouled, and Dodge City missed the front end of a one-and-one. Abbott rebounded, and he was immediately fouled.

Abbott went to the line with 34 seconds to play and again missed both shots. Dodge City answered with two free throws at the line with 24 seconds to play.

Trailing by three, Abbott attempted an inbound pass to Tim Fitzgerald, but Dodge City stole the pass and put in a shot for a five-point lead with 19 seconds to play.

Dodge added a late free throw for the 46-40 final.
