Seven young women will vie for the 2014 Miss Liberal crown at the pageant slated for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the James Maskus Auditorium at Liberal High School. Pageant director Lu Haynes wanted the community to meet the contestants, and they are:

TABITHA BARNETT

Tabitha is a student at Garden City Community College. She is majoring in theatre and music with hopes of obtaining a master’s degree.

She is also very active in New Beginnings Church & World of Life, Assistant of Light House Ministries and many other church organizations.

Tabitha has received superior ratings at Garden City Piano Festivals, OMTA Festivals, Oklahoma Baptist Keyboard Festival and Janzen Music.

She has been a “Dorothy” tour guide at Dorothy’s House and the Coronado Museum.

Her platform is “Using the Four Points of the Crown to Mentor the Youth of Today.”

Her talent is a vocal/piano presentation titled “Oceans.”

Tabitha’s parents are Katherine  “Tessy” and Cory Barnett.

EMILY BAYOUTH

Emily is a sophomore at Seward County Community College where she is an accounting major with ambitions of obtaining a master’s degree in accounting.

She has been active in many roles including Kids Inc., Phi Mu at OSU, activities benefitting Children’s Miracle Network, OSU Botanical Gardens and Children Wondertorium.

Emily has also participated in philanthropy events benefiting St. Jude’s Hospital and Taylor Trudeau Foundation.

Emily has worked for Shelter Insurance and also Farmers Insurance as account manager.

She is a recipient of KSCB scholarship and is recipient of Beef Empire Days Scholarship.

Her platform is “Preventing Assault by Personal Awareness.”

Emily will perform a “Karate” routine for her talent.

Her parents are Clareisa and Larry Bayouth.

KYANA CARTER

Kyana is a senior at Liberal High School where she recently was homecoming queen attendant.

She plans to attend Seward County Community College in the fall. She will be studying and majoring in radiology and surgical technology, with the hopes of obtaining a master’s degree in the future. Kyana is also a Junior Ambassador for Seward County.

Her platform is “Promoting Positive Body Image.”

Kyana will present a “Monologue” for her talent.

Kyana’s parents are Annette and Larry Butler.

HOLLY HINKLE

Holly is a senior at Liberal High School and is the recipient of Kansas State University Scholarship; is on the Principal’s Honor Roll; is a member of Kansas Scholar Program and Merit Scholar Program.

She is captain of the Varsity Dance Team, and is in the top 15 percent of her senior class. She is also a member of Student Council and is Executive Council President. Holly created and implemented “Voices in the Hall” at Liberal High School.

Her plans are to attend Seward County Community College or Kansas State University and to obtain a masters in business and marketing with a minor in public relations.

Her platform is “Youth Leadership Development.”

Holly’s talent presentation is a Character Jazz Dance to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody.”

Her parents are Amy and Scott Hinkle.

JESSICA MARTINEZ

Jessica is a student at Seward County Community College and is also on the Cheerleading Team. Her major is social work with plans to someday obtain a master’s degree in social work.

She would also like to become an adoption counselor.

In high school, she was Senior Class President and captain of the cheerleading team for two years.

Jessica has been a supervisor at Adventure Bay Water Park and is an AVID tutor in the Liberal schools.

Her platform is “Spending Time as a Family.”

For her talent presentation, Jessica will perform a dance routine.

Her parents are Elsa and Eduardo Martinez.

RACHEL MEYER

Rachel is a senior at Liberal High School where she is a cheerleading captain – two years; was chosen All American Cheerleader; is active in Student Council, and is recipient of Kansas State Scholarship. She is also on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and has completed Kansas Scholars Curriculum.

Rachel will be attending Kansas State University in the fall. Her future plans are to obtain a master’s degree in business administration.

She has been a lifeguard at Adventure Bay Water Park, and at the Liberal Country Club. She has also been employed at Crop Production Services.

Rachel’s platform is “Character/Child Development.”

For her talent, Rachel will be performing a Hip/Hop dance to “Body Bounce.”

Her parents are Brenda and Travis Meyer.

OLIVIA ROBINSON

Olivia is a senior at Kansas Connections Academy and is also a student at Seward County Community College, where she is on the Dean’s List for part-time students.

Some of her leadership roles include: Ambassador for Seward County Historical Society, Worship Leader for Journey youth group at First Baptist Church; and Dance & Discussion group leader for Heritage Home School Cooperative.

Olivia is also a “Senior Dorothy” at Dorothy’s House and Coronado Museum, was first runner up to Five State Fair Queen, and is an active member in 4-H, placing first in poetry at the Seward County 4-H Fair.

Her platform is “The Importance of Awareness in Human Trafficking.”

Her talent presentation is a lyrical dance to her own original lyrics, entitled “Grace.”

Olivia’s parents are Kathryn and Loren Robinson
