GUYMON — The 11th-ranked Class 2A Hooker Lady Bulldogs found themselves in a battle Saturday night against Class 5A Guymon, trailing after the first quarter. And it wasn’t until a fourth quarter run led by Kyra Cathcart and Mariana Cervantes that the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull away to a 63-48 win.

Guymon (6-13) led 10-9 after the first quarter.

Hooker (19-2) got an opening three from Naomi Rodriguez, but Guymon’s Brooke Arledge and Sydney Hein kept pace for the Lady Tigers, and Guymon tied the game at 6 with 4 minutes to go in the period.

Cathcart put Hooker up by one, but Heidi Marquez gave Guymon its first lead on the next possession. Cathcart answered with a minute to go, but Marquez came right back for Guymon to put the Lady Tigers into the lead.

The lead exchanged hands or was tied five times in the second quarter as Cervantes, Shania Miller and Cathcart exchanged baskets with Marquez and Denesse Longoria.

Cathcart put Hooker ahead for good at 17-15 with four minutes left in the second quarter as the Lady Dogs opened up an 9-point advantage before Guymon’s Longoria and Arledge helped the Lady Tigers cut it to 29-22 at the half.

Guymon opened the second half with a quick run to cut it to 31-30 at one point behind Marquez and Longoria, But Cervantes single-handedly pushed Hooker to a 38-32 lead entering the final frame.
