JOHNSON – Myrtle Mae Horton Teeter, 97, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.

She was born March 16, 1916, to John Alanson “Lant” and Roxie Viala (Burrous) Horton in rural Stevens County.

She married Harry W. Tweeter   Dec. 31, 1936, in Ulysses. He preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Stevens County High School. She later attended cosmetology school and was a hairdresser in Ulysses.

For many years, the couple farmed in Grant County.

She was a member of the Moscow Methodist Church, the Sew and Sew Club, Cimmaron Grange No. 1932 and the HDU Club. She was an active member of the Johnson United Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Unit, EHU and Cosmos Club. She served on the Stanton County Extension Board, the Stanton County Senior Center Board and provided more than 20 years of volunteer service to the LTCU as a hairdresser.

Survivors include one son, Glen Teeter and wife, Velta, Johnson; one daughter, Janice Battin, Ulysses; brother, Scherrial Horton, Van Nuys, Calif.; one sister, Faye Langley, Dodge City; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one son-in-law, Ron Dennis, Plevna.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnn Dennis; six brothers, Lant Horton, Jr., Joe Horton, Dean Horton, LeRoy Horton, Dale Horton and Donald Horton; three sisters: Dorothy Reynolds, Carol Clark and Betty Gay; grandson, Bradley Dennis; and one son-in-law Charlie Battin.

• Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Richard Fitzgerald presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
