Never underestimate a rival.

South may not have had the most successful season so far, but they gave their crosstown rivals a scare before the Warriors ran away in overtime to a 41-33 win.

Cameron Riley proved to be the difference in overtime, scoring seven of his 12 points in the extra period including four free throws and a three-pointer.

South stunned the Warriors in the first quarter when Dustin Torres sparked a 10-5 Apache lead.

But the Warrior defense clamped down in the seocnd quarter, only allowing one South basket. Tristen Bigham scored four of West’s eight second quarter points, and by halftime the Warriors had a 13-12 lead.

The Apaches took advantage of Warrior fouls in the third quarter and made six of 10 free throws in the period to outpace the Warriors 10-9 and tie the game.

The game stayed close int he fourth quarter, and each tam hit a three-pointer. Jorge Humaran missed a key free throw after being fouled, and by the end of regulation the score was tied 31-31.

But the overtime was all West.

Riley hit a three-pointer in overtime, and Hollis Fitzgerald added a basket, and the Warriors were five of six from the free throw line to outscore the Apaches 10-2 to claim the 41-33 win.

Riley and Bigham each scored 12 points to lead the Warriors, and Fitxgerald scored five.

The Apaches were led by Torres who scored 13 points.
