Seward rallied too quick.

The Lady Saints battled back from a five point deficit in the final four minutes and took a one-point lead with 9.7 to play, but Garden City was able to get a basket with 2.1 seconds remaining, Seward’s half court pass was intercepted, and Garden City escaped the Greenhouse with a 57-56 win.

The loss came on the heels of an emotional battle Saturday against Hutchinson in the Arena, and after having a second half lead against the conference leaders, the Lady Saints faltered late and lost by 10.

Garden City hosted the Lady Blue Dragons Monday and lost by 13.

But Garden City brought its defense to the Greenhouse, and the Lady Saints struggled to get quality shots.

Garden City took a 12-6 lead after Kate Inchun nailed a three, but Fabiana Monte responded with a three.

It was Monte’s only basket all night.

A pair of free throws by Shanise Brook with 7:39 to play in the first half tied the game, 23-23, but Garden responded with a 5-0 run.

Payton Fleming knocked down a three, and Korina Chapman added three free throws and a basket before half, and Garden City had a 32-31 lead.

Te Lady Broncbusters built a six-point lead in the first four minutes of the second half, but the Lady Saints responded with a 5-0 run.

A pair of threes from Alaina Simon and Chapman gave Seward its first lead of the game with 11:07 to play, 46-45, but the Lady Saints gave up the advantage in less than a minute.

Garden built a 55-50 lead with 3:26 to play, but the Lady Saints tied the game with 1:03 to play when Chapman forced a turnover and passed the ball up court to Simon who laid it in.

With 9.4 seconds to play, Chapman was fouled, but she only made one of two free throws, and Garden City pushed the ball inside and after a miss rebounded the ball and put it back in for the 57-56 lead.

Seward attempted an inbounds play with 2.1 seconds to play, but Garden City intercepted the half court pass and ran out the clock.

Seward only made six of 23 three-point shots and was five of 10 form the free throw line in the second half.
