With the game tied at 36, KaDawn McReynolds raced down the court, went up in the air for the shot, and was called for a charge, giving the ball back to Laverne with 41.9 seconds left. But that did not deter McReynolds from driving to the hoop again, this time getting the foul call in her favor. She then stepped to the free throw line with 1.9 seconds left and sank both, and the Lady Bulldogs pulled out a 38-36 win over the Laverne Lady Tigers.
McReynolds trip to the line was set up by great team defense. Laverne was set to inbound the ball underneath their own basket with seven seconds left, but the Lady Bulldogs forced a five-second call that turned the ball back over to Forgan and gave them one more chance to win in regulation.
The Forgan defense also held Laverne without a field goal in the fourth quarter.
The game was tight throughout with each team scoring 9 in the first quarter. Courtney Eagan kept the Bulldgos close in the second quarter, scoring 7 of her 9 points. Laverne did gather an 11-10 advantage in the quarter to take a 20-19 lead at half.
Alex McBee scored 6 of her 7 points in the third as the two teams played to a 10-10 stalemate, and Laverne headed into the fourth with a one-point advantage (30-29).
Nikki Taylor was steady throughout for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring a team-high 11, McReynolds added 8.
Forgan finishes the regular season 9-13 and will host Yarbrough Friday in the first round of the district playoffs.
