L&T staff report
Liberal Kids Inc., a nonprofit organization that supports free team sports activities for Liberal’s youth from the third to sixth grades has endorsed the project to improve Liberal’s schools.
According to their letter, Kids Inc. depends on the district for access to facilities to provide activities, and because of the lack of gym space, kids practice as late as 8:30 p.m. to participate.
“The use of the school’s facilities has allowed Kids Inc. to continue to offer activities for free, and even with the strong partnership between Kids Inc. and the school district, there is still a limit to what can be done in the current facilities,” the organization said in their letter of endosrement.
Kids Inc.’s letter of support also stated that having adequate classrooms was equally important to a quality education, and that the additional space was needed.
The proposed $127 million bond will be paid for with 49 percent state funding ($62.3 million), 22 percent sales tax ($28 million) and 29 percent property tax ($35.5 million).
The election will take place April 8 with advance voting a week prior.
