Band students and volunteers chat with guests as they begin a busy night in the serving line at last year’s annual fish fry fundraiser. Several hundred people came out in support of the band.

‘That’ Liberal Band preparing for its 34th annual Fish Fry

• Special to the Leader & Times

“That” Liberal Band will be hosting the 34th Annual Fish Fry, at the Seward County Activities Center, on Thursday, March 13. The menu has changed over the years and now includes: battered fried fish and chicken, hush puppies, corn, cole slaw and cheezy potatoes. Coffee and tea are furnished and sodas and desserts may be purchased.

Improvements have been made to the menu with the addition of chicken and hush puppies. Patrons will receive three big portions of fish/chicken and are invited to get a second helping if needed.

Another innovation is the new cookers that were introduced a year ago. They are regular restaurant cookers and are faster, easier to use and basically smokeless. The smoke cloud has disappeared and so has the waiting line.

Patrons may dine in or carry their order out, to be enjoyed at home.

Ticket prices have gone up this year to $12 for adults and $6 for children, but the LHS Band Boosters are providing more food on the plate and consistent quality to that food.

The community of Liberal has supported “That” Liberal Band in its local and travelling performances. This year proceeds from the Fish Fry, will be used to defray costs for the band’s trip to Orlando, Fla., at the end of the school year, and also next year’s marching expenses.

The LHS Band Boosters also wish to thank the many businesses and individuals in the community that make cash or product donations. These are the folks that will make the 34th annual event possible.

Serving will commence at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, and the Band Boosters won’t stop cooking fish until everyone is fed.

The evenings entertainment will be furnished by the LHS Jazzmen, under the direction of Lance Burnett.

Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased from LHS Band Members. Liberal residents and folks from the surrounding area are cordially invited to buy a ticket, support “That” Liberal Band, and have a great evening of food and entertainment.
