The Southwestern Heights Mustangs nabbed 17 steals at Stanton County Friday night on their way to a 65-58 win.
Defense led the way at the start as Heights held Stanton County to just seven points in the first quarter and built a six-point lead (13-7).
The Mustangs increased their lead to nine before half with a 13-10 advantage in the second quarter to go up 26-17.
Scoring picked up in the second half as Stanton County scored more points in the third quarter than they did the entire first half. The Trojans cut into the Mustangs lead by outscoring them 24-21, but Heights still led by six (47-41).
Heights outscored the Trojans 18-17 in the fourth to hold on for the seven-point win.
Heights was 25 of 63 from the field and 14 of 24 at the line.
Cody Jennings finished with 15 points on 7 of 14 shooting, grabbed 9 rebounds and four assists. Jorge Dela Torre also scored 15 on 7 of 14 shooting, and grabbed six rebounds. Alexis Loya added 12 points, including a perfect 6 for 6 at the free throw line, and grabbed 6 boards. Nathan Johnsrud scored 11 and grabbed 5 boards, and Frank Herrera led the team with 8 steals.
Heights (9-6) will travel to Beaver (13-8) Monday.
