The Forgan Lady Bulldogs started fast, and held off county rival Balko to win the regional championship, 47-32, Saturday in Buffalo.
Forgan waisted no time getting started, and jumped out to an 18-9 nine lead after one period of play.
“We got off to a good start,” said Lady Bulldogs coach Brett Trippet. “We were able to break their press early and get some easy baskets.”
Balko closed the scoring gap in the second quarter, but Forgan still led 31-20 at the half.
The Lady Bison outscored Forgan 9-8 in the third, cutting the lead to just 10 heading into the final period, 39-29.
“We got a little sloppy in the middle of the game,” said Trippet.
But the Lady Bulldogs put the clamps on Balko’s offense allowing only four points to squash any hopes of a comeback.
“I was very happy with our defense,” said Trippet. “We slowed it down quite a bit also to limit their possessions and chances to get back in the game.”
Miranda Lopez led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, Jaci McGill added 9, and Samantha Leisher and Kenzi Taylor each scored 8.
No.6 Forgan is 24-2 and will play in the Area championship in Woodward against No.8 Lomega Friday at 6:30. The winner advances to the state tournament, while the loser will have one more chance to make it to state Saturday.
