TODAY

• Morning transportation for persons age 55 and older is available from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through the Liberal Senior Center.  For more information or to schedule a ride, call 624-2511.

• The Western Avenue Church of Christ has a benevolent room which is open to the public from 9 to 10 a.m. every Thursday. For those in need of clothing, come by 215 S. Western Ave.

•  The Liberal Table Tennis Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office.

•  T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a non-profit weight loss group, meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays at Grace Lutheran Church at 1200 W. 11th Street in Liberal. The first meeting is free. Dues are $28 per year. Call Gail at 629-1379 with questions.

• The Liberal Area Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Services Men’s Support Group will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at 909 N. Clay.

FRIDAY

• Yellow Freight Retiree Club will host a dinner at 1 p.m. at Vargas’s Restaurant. All retirees are invited.

• Lone Star Friends Church will host its 57th annual Groundhog Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. The menu will include sausage, hash browns, biscuits, gravy, salads and homemade pies. Those wishing to attend are reminded that, with the fellowship hall addition, seating and serving lines are available on the ground floor with no stairs to navigate. This supper asks only for a free-will donation at the door. Lone Star Friends Church is located 9 miles north of Liberal on U.S. Hwy. 83 then 9 miles west on Hwy. 51. • Emeritus at Liberal Springs will host its second annual “come and go” Ground Hog Supper from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. All proceeds will go to the 2014 Southwest Kansas Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The menu includes bacon/sausage, scrambled eggs, hash brown casserole, biscuits and sausage gravy, chocolate cake and apple or cherry crisp. Adults – $6, children 8 years and younger – $3 or free will donations will be accepted. Emeritus at Liberal Springs is located at 1500 Terrace Ave., Liberal. Call 624-8000 for take-out orders.

SUNDAY

• Former Kansas State University quarterback and 2012 Heisman Trophy finalist Collin Klein is coming to Liberal. Pastor Rex Petty of Faith Tabernacle Church has announced Klein has agreed to come to Liberal. He will speak at 10:30 Sunday morning at Faith Tabernacle on Feb. 2. and then speak during half time at the church’s free Super Bowl party later that day. Not only will Klein be the guest speaker during halftime, Petty said Klein will also be signing autographs for those who attend. Doors to the Ag Building will open at 5 p.m. and the game kicks off at 5:20. Refreshments will be served and there is no cost to attend. The Super Bowl Party is sponsored by the Liberal Ministerial Alliance.Children younger than 13 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

MONDAY

• The recently chartered men’s auxiliary of V.F.W. Post No. 3166 will meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Post Home. For more information, call Paul Harrington at 629-1205, David Peugh at 391-0235 or the V.F.W. post at 624-7447.

TUESDAY

• New Community Missionary Baptist Church hosts a food cupboard beginning at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Residents in need should bring identification to receive services. The cupboard is located at the Community Missionary Baptist Educational Center.
