Obituary

MEADE – Richard Arthur Batman, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.

He was born Dec. 30, 1925, to Arthur William and Leona Mae (Morrison) Batman in rural Meade County.

He married Merle Louise Garten April 17, 1949, in Plains. She died in 2004.

He attended school in Meade prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1943.  After the war, he attended Kansas State College.

He farmed and ranched in Meade.

He was a lifelong member of the Meade United Methodist Church.

He maintained an airplane and pilot’s license for the next 46 years.

He is survived by his son, Kim (Michele) Batman, Meade; a daughter, Bonnie Batman Durham, Newton; four grandsons, Adam (Renee) Batman, Brent (Jill) Batman, all of Omaha, Neb., Cole Batman, Meade, and Devin (Jennifer) Batman, Tulsa, Okla.; and three great-grandsons, Wesley, Hugo and Drew.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wayne.

• A family graveside service will be at Graceland Cemetery in Meade at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
