CYPRESS, Texas – Kenneth D. Unruh, 82, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Kindred Hospital Northwest in Houston.

He was born Jan. 17, 1932, to Ernest W. “Pete” and Gladys (White) Unruh in Larned.

He married Darlene M. Lofland Nov. 24, 1957, in Great Bend. She survives.

He graduated from Radium High School, attended Kansas State University and completed his bachelor of science degree at Fort Hays State University.

He was a pilot. He worked as an insurance adjuster and manager for the General Adjustment Bureau for 21 years. He then started his own State Farm agency, which he operated for 22 years in Liberal.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Liberal, serving as deacon and trustee.

He enjoyed hunting and trapshooting. He helped build a new gun range for the Liberal Gun Club. He traveld with his wife, visiting his grandchildren and helped managed the family farm. He served at the Liberal Air Museum and taught trap shooting at Seward County Community College.

He is also survived by two daughters, Rachelle Webster and husband, Terry, Houston, and Andrea Wiley and husband, Scott, Houston; one brother, Rodney Kline Unruh and wife, Jane, Elk City, Okla.; six grandchildren, Lauren Jones, Austin Texas, Paige Brown and husband, Cory, Austin, Kelsie Morrison and husband, Marty, Houston, Tawni Webster, Houston, Tanner Webster, Margate, Fla., and Terry Don Webster and wife, Tiffany, Borger, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Carter Brown, Austin.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Lea Unruh.

• Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether.

Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Liberal Gun Club in care of the funeral home.
