Second quarter surge leads Mustangs over Satanta PDF Print E-mail

The Southwestern Heights Mustangs got back on the winning track, thanks in part to a big second quarter run that propelled them to a 59-39 win over the Satanta Lady Indians in the third place game of the Hi-Plains League Tournament.

Heights led by just one point 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but busted the game wide open with a20-8 run in the second quarter to go up by 13 at half (34-21).

Satanta kept the game from getting out of hand with a 15-13 advantage in the third, but the Mustangs pulled away in the fourth for a 20-point win.

Four Mustangs finished in double figures. Nathan Johnsrud finished with 14 points, 3 steals, and 5 assists; Jorge Dela Torre score 13, Cody Jennings added 11, and Alexis Loya scored 10 and grabbed seven boards.

Satanta was led in scoring by Jesus Garcia with 11 points, and Garrett Miller with 9. Trathan Stanfill added 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Heights (8-5) will host Oklahoma Class B No.1 Forgan (17-0) Tuesday.
