Obituary

MANTER – Coy Wayne Adams, 84, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.

He was born June 3, 1929, to Simon Lee and Georgia Pauline Gray Adams in Bradleyville, Mo.

He married Martha Aug. 27, 1947, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He attended school until the 9th grade in Selah, Wash.

In 1984, he retired as Manter city superintendent after 15 years of service.  Prior to that, he farmed for Hoopingarner Brothers, as Collingwood Grain elevator manager and as Adams Mobile Service Station owner operator.

He was a member of the Manter United Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 441 in Johnson for more than 50 years.

He was a long time cancer survivor and enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Relay for Life.  He enjoyed country and gospel music and played the piano, organ, and guitar by ear.  He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed talking to people across the United States and Canada.

He is also survived by two sons, Troy and Cheryl, Johnson, and Craig and Laneta, Hooker, Okla.; daughter, Shirley and Duane Weisz, Garden City;  his grandchildren, Tyson and Wendi Adams, Adriana and Nicholas Gelwix, Ashley and Joe Heatherman and Shelby and Seth Unruh; Coy and Megan Adams; Brette Adams; Cory Tursini; two step-grandchildren, Chad Weisz and Clete Weisz; his great-grandchildren, Colton Adams, Aidan and Parker Gelwix, Harley Jo and Hailey Heatherman and Trek Unruh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Wayne; five brothers, Forrest and wife Elizabeth, Virgil, Raymond, Roy and Carl; and one sister, Dorothy Scribner.

• Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Manter, with Pastor Mary Courtney presiding.

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, with rites conducted by Masonic Lodge No. 441.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 441, Manter United Methodist Church or St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855.
