In Loving Memory

HUGOTON – Lifelong Hugoton resident, Joan Belle Spikes, passed from this life Saturday, December 21, 2013 at her residence.  She was 86.

The daughter of Robert McIlrath and the former Thelma Farmer, she was born January 18, 1927 in Hugoton where she was a lifetime resident.

December 7, 1948, Joan married Warren W. Spikes in Clayton, NM.

Mrs. Spikes was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hugoton.

Survivors include husband Warren Spikes of Hugoton; three sons, Toby Spikes of Steamboat Springs, CO, Kirk Spikes and wife Kay of Olathe and Scott Spikes and wife Teresa of Hugoton; her daughter Ann Spikes of Wichita; three sisters, Margaret LaVon Holt of Liberal, Retha Wagner and husband Charles of Hugoton and Delores Bullard and husband R.C. of Columbus, KS; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Those preceding Joan in death were her parents and sister Shirley Dillmon.

• Graveside services were held at Hugoton Cemetery.  A memorial has been established for the Kansas Humane Society and the City of Hugoton for the Animal Shelter.
